As in any other sport, there is a specific dress code. This dress code might seem old-fashioned although over the years a lot has changed. Men are no longer required to wear knee-high socks, long trousers or shorts over the knee and even collared shirts are slowly disappearing from this antiquated dress code. Also, the ladies can now wear shorter skirts, dresses and shorts and don’t have to stick to the 4” above-the-knee rule.
Nowadays more fashionable outfits can be seen on our golf courses, and new cuts and fits of golf apparel make this dress code sportier, comfortable and trendy.
Depending on the golf club this dress code can vary and you might find that in high-end golf clubs the rules are strict as they do wish to keep up the reputation of the club, they want their players to look their best, which instils a sense of professionalism and respectability.
On lower-priced courses, municipal courses or pitch and putt they might be more relaxed about these rules. The higher the green fee the more likely it is that there will be a dress code, but don’t take this as a general rule.
Follow the dress code of a club
To be safe it’s always best to wear a collared shirt, tailored shorts and a golf skirt for women. Golf clubs can prohibit you from playing if you do not follow their dress code. It's your responsibility to check this and we can't refund you if you didn't comply with their dress code. Please check 'Article 12 of our General Terms and Conditions'.
Wear golf shoes
Footwear in any sport is very important. Shoes are specially designed to fit the needs of the person participating in different sports. Correct shoes avoid injury, improve your performance and make it possible to practice your sport more comfortably. Therefore in golf, you will be required to wear golf shoes which will help your stability, balance and flexibility during the golf swing. It will also prevent injuries or damage to the golf course.
Please note that many clubs extend this dress code to the clubhouse as well if you were thinking of popping in for a pint in your beach shorts, tank top and flip-flops.
Don’t let the dress code scare you off playing golf, as in any other sport a specific outfit is required. To avoid disappointment: Know before you go, if in doubt call ahead or visit the club's website for more information on their dress code.
Wishing you a great round!
