What is the Leading Courses review and photo policy (Editorial Policy)?

Modified on Fri, 16 Oct at 5:59 PM

We believe the best advice on where to play comes from other golfers: by golfers, for golfers. That's why we work hard to make sure every review and photo on Leading Courses is genuine.

Our general policy

Every golfer should feel free to share their opinion, good or bad. You can use an alias, and we will never share your personal details with a golf club or third party. Everyone in a flight can write a review, and you can review the same course more than once. We don't remove reviews just because a club disagrees with them.

Review guidelines

Our content team reads every review and checks it against these rules:

  • the review text must comply with our Terms and Conditions (in particular Article 7);
  • the review text must be at least 50 characters long;
  • you may not use a review to promote a brand or company;
  • reviews with only 10.0 ratings (or very close to that) are flagged. We contact you to understand your ratings. If we don't get a response (bounced email or no answer), the review is disapproved;
  • reviews with only 1.0 ratings (or very close to that) are flagged in the same way;
  • reviews written during or just after a dispute with a golf club can be removed if their aim is to discredit the club (the club must provide proof of the dispute);
  • reviews that aim to deliberately harm a golf club, for example by posting the same review on several platforms, can be deactivated;
  • reviews by an employee of a golf club about that club are disapproved;
  • you must have played the course; just visiting is not enough;
  • complaints are not reviews, for example if you could not play because of a misunderstanding or bad weather;
  • duplicate reviews of the same experience are removed.

We may also remove URLs, remove repeated punctuation and correct obvious spelling mistakes to improve readability.

Asking for reviews

Golf clubs may ask golfers to write reviews, and we offer them free widgets and business cards for this. Clubs may not ask for positive reviews, or offer compensation for removing a negative review. If we suspect this, we may exclude the club from our Golfers' Choice Awards and Seals of Approval.

Photo policy

Upload photos that show the character of a hole, the course or the club. We may remove photos that:

  • do not comply with our Terms and Conditions (in particular Article 7);
  • are duplicates or almost identical;
  • are not of the golf club they were uploaded to.

Golf club staff and golfers can flag photos that break these rules. Only upload photos you own or have permission to use.
